Blog'antine Day 9

Hello! Today is Thursday April 9, 2020, day 9 of my blog'antine, where I blog everyday until the month of May during my quarantine at home for the coronavirus pandemic.

Today we brought home little Bean! Her name given at the Humane Society is Gertie but I changed it to Bean. I call her Little Bean because she's little and adorable but it's also a nod to Peanut as a peanut is a legume and so is a bean. Otherwise we normally name our pets after different nuts. She's been at the humane society since last July and was brought in when she was just a couple weeks old. She is approx 10 months old now and she has black fur with some white patches on the front. An over all black tuxedo cat!  She is so cute and petite! We have her home now and she is hiding beneath the bar cart. The process at the Humane Society to adopt hasn't changed a whole lot since I was an adoption counselor in 2003-2005. You fill out an application online and they do a background check and also speak with our previous veterinarian/animal hospitals. We spend a lot of time and money on our pets so I'm sure they got good reviews about us. They also check to see if you own your home and that way no pets will be abandoned if you have a landlord that says no pets. We arrived at the humane society a little before 2pm today and filled out the final paper work. Eddie and I along with the kennel tech wore masks and gloves. They brought Bean in to see us and it was love at first pat! She was still pretty skittish obviously but she quickly cuddled up to me and pushed her face into my legs and hands and loves getting pets.

She is over all a healthy and happy cat but she does have some special needs. Right now she is taking revolution for ear mites and she also eats a specific diet for food allergies.  For us, these concerns are a walk in the park and nothing new! We are so glad to give her a loving and forgiving home with unconditional love and the ability to do anything and everything to keep her happy and healthy.

Bean is definitely interested in Pistachio, her brother who is a male zebra finch! She loves to watch him zoom back and fourth from the safety of his cage up high. I guess we'll find out soon enough if I have to move his cage farther up or not! We've got ideas if need be. but for now, Little Bean is acclimating and getting to know our common area of the home. We have the bathroom and bedrooms closed off so that she can get to know the common area first. She is letting us know which furniture needs to be dusted under as she finds different places to hide and comes out with her black fur covered in dust bunnies.  It's a new adventure and it's so wonderful to start this process all over again with Eddie. This is such a crazy time in life and I couldn't be more pleased to have a new furry friend to hunker down with.

I'll talk to you guys again tomorrow! Thanks so much for coming by to meet our new cat! See you tomorrow!
