My Mystic Michigan Birthday

This March my birthday lands on Friday the 13th! Woohoo! I love celebrating my birthday because it's a great excuse to theme-out a gathering of friends and family (or just Eddie, Peanut and I) and make life fun! Last time I had a Friday the 13th birthday was 2015 and we went to the Winchester Mystery Mansion for a special flashlight tour. Mrs Winchester was obsessed with the number 13 so we were able to do that event while celebrating the spooky vibe of my "unlucky" birth-date. As it rolls around again for this year, I just wanted to post a for-fun type of blog discussing my ideas for a theme and hopefully getting some feedback from you about any other ideas you have for me!

this mood board shows how I feel inside: bubbly and sweet!

I tried so hard to find all the little spooky and macabre places in Michigan so I could really make the most of my Friday the 13th.  Henderson Castle in Kalamazoo looks like a must see place! It's totally haunted! Also, the suites there boast amazing cozy vibe giving amenities like warming marble floors and jacuzzi tubs. Add to that luxurious furniture and historical decor and I'm there! Mackinac Island is definitely haunted but it's too cold to visit there this time of year. and although touring the Mason Building in downtown Detroit with some members of the Detroit Paranormal Expeditions is on our bucket list, we have plans to do that later this year. As I thought about the different spooky places I could visit for my birthday, I realized I wanted to make it all work to stay here in Traverse City so that my family could come visit me and we wouldn't have to use our petsitter for Peanut (Yes, our cat has her own petsitter because she deserves it and also so she can get her fluids everyday. We pay our vet-tech sitter $100 a day and it's worth every. single. penny.)

There's always a lot of really unique and fun experiences to do in Traverse City. One thing I thought would be a good idea for my birthday vibe is getting our Tarot Cards read to us by a professional. I've been to a "professional" psychic before and it was actually really cool! Tarot's use of imagery and symbolism to me screams all things mystical and magical and therefor it's a good addition to my weekend plans. At some point, I'd love to spend an evening with a psychic at a haunted location and listen to all the things they learn about a place on another realm. I realize I don't have those connections in our city quite yet, haha, so I'll stick with a Tarot Card reading for now. I'm excited to check out Higher Self downtown Traverse City. Their address is 313 which is my birthday so you know I can't go wrong! It's meant to be!

absinthe, velvet, and the roaring 20's style

While we were still renting our apartment here in Traverse City before buying our home, we met a neighbor outside who told us about his speakeasy downtown and he flipped us a couple of free drink coins and told us the password to get in the door! So cool! I'm sad to say we haven't been there yet but maybe we were just waiting for the right opportunity and I think this birthday is a great night to go! It sounds like they have amazing drinks and food made from local sources and have antique furniture and even serve their beverages in Victorian antique crystal! I'm honestly obsessed already and I haven't been there yet.

Another must do for my birthday weekend is a walking tour of the state asylum's tunnel system. This place is rumored to be haunted but I have never experienced anything. I've done a blog before about this experience and you can read it here.

I think another way I'll celebrate is by having my first sale at my etsy shop! I've been hoarding super cute items just for this purpose! You don't need a code, the sale is already on and thank you SO SO MUCH FOR SUPPORTING ME!!

What Friday the 13th party ideas do you have?
