Blog'antine Day 10

Hello! Today is Friday, April 10 and this is day ten of my 30 days of quarantine blogging while I stay home during the coronavirus pandemic.

It's already been quit the morning in our house! Bean is adapting quite well. We played with her for about an hour last night and it was amazing to see a cat with that much energy again! She loves to play with toys! The staff at the humane society must have done a good job giving her playtime because she knows how to play. She's still pretty skittish when we are up and walking around but when we are both sitting and stay relatively quiet, she gets comfortable enough to come up to us. I didn't expect her to sleep with me in the bed at all. Peanut hardly ever did that. Especially once I moved in with Eddie in 2009. The most time she spent in our bed with me is when she wasn't feeling good or sometimes she would nap with me. but she didn't stay in our bed all night. Well, imagine my surprise and delight when I felt a little Bean kitty jump up on my side of the bed with her motor running and nuzzled up with me! She got a lot of pats and was purring pretty loudly. She came back again later and jumped on the bed and this time laid on my tummy and we both fell asleep like that. I can tell that she is such a cuddly lover and Eddie and I are so excited to see her come out of her shell.

To keep things less complicated for our new family member, we've been keeping the bedroom and bathroom doors closed. Last night at bedtime we opened our bedroom door so that she could come in while we were sleeping. We also put Stashi's cage in the second bedroom while we slept. Bean hasn't tried jump up to the cage yet, but she seems pretty darn interested! That's for sure! We have a few ideas of where to put the cage from now on. One is to hang it from the ceiling like we usually did in the past. Stashi has a pretty big and heavy cage though. Eddie thought this would be a good excuse to go up into our attic and mount the hook to a rafter up there and hang the cage in the living room. Plan B is to put a large shelf that's in our garage higher up on a wall in the living room. Bean won't be able to open the cage but being under a year old, her energy is high and she might try lunging at it.

After a comfy night with spotty sleep, Eddie got up at his usual time for his workout in the garage (he has a weight bench and heavy bag) and his morning hot tub soak. He was very careful in closing one back door before opening the other (we have a mudroom so that's why 2 back doors). Bean hasn't made a run for it or anything, but still, we don't know her that well yet. Well when I got up 3 hours after Eddie, I started looking for our new kitty to tell her good morning! but we couldn't find her anywhere. We started tearing apart the house, opening all cupboards, looking in every closet, looking behind and underneath everything twice or three times. After about a 20 minutes of that I began to get scared that she found a way to get outside! or perhaps found a hole somewhere and climbed into the bowels of the house. Yes, I had a cat do that once. He found a space inside the back of a closet and it opened up into the walls. Pretty crazy. As I started to cry a little, we put on our coats and shoes and started walking outside. I asked Peanut, one of my guardian angels, to help us find her. We walked around our house and neighbor's house. I kept wondering how did this happened? How did she get out? It seemed impossible. and poor Eddie probably felt so confused as to how it happened when he was so careful. We really felt like there was no way she was still in the house because we would have at least heard her collar bell! The house was eerily silent.

Down the street, there is a quite the large litter of black cats and one of them has a little white diamond patch on her chest just like Bean. I was like, "is that her?!" but she didn't have a collar on. So, I'm walking down our alleyway, bawling my eyes out and feeling so awful that she may be outside and lost somewhere. or inside and lost where! We came back inside and Eddie went back into our bedroom to start the process all over again. At this point, no one had seen her in 3 hours or so. Eddie called me into the bedroom and he gestured at my vanity. Poking out from a large mirror leaning against the wall, was a little black furry kitty butt. She had been there the whole time! She got us good! I immediately started overflowing with grateful tears and put my hands on my chest and thanked God so much. That was really scary. Next time, I need to trust ourselves better.  I know we are being super careful and attentive and I also know that kitties are really good at hiding.

An update on our Disney trip: I waited on hold with Disney for 2 hours before someone picked up. I asked if I could move our reservations to next May the Fourth but they said they won't be booking for January and beyond until the prices for next year come out in June or July. Hopefully they don't go up too much! But we are going no matter what! They were very accommodating and gave us our deposit back. It's kind of a bummer to no longer have the trip in the books, but I know we'll make it next year. I'm sure everyone will be wearing masks etc, even a year from now. I think there's going to be a lot of changes to how theme parks work after this coronavirus pandemic. What do you think will be different? Also, I still have to cancel our flights and get a voucher or a refund from Delta. Have any of you had to cancel flights or vacation packages? How has the process been for you?

I'll see you back here tomorrow! Hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy. Thank you so much for visiting me here!
