Hello! Today is Tuesday, April 21 2020. Thanks for coming back for day 21 of my 30 days of blog'antine while I quarantine from home during the coronavirus epidemic.
Holy blizzard! I woke up to a blanket of snow today! (I posted it on my insta stories check it out) Isn't Bean looking so cozy in her window sill? She sits at that window in the morning by our bed and waits for me to wake up. In other news, thanks to everyone for for clicking on my advertisements! I had a couple of you message me and ask if you're doing it right, and yes you all are. Thank you so much! We definitely need the money, just like everyone else.
I don't talk too much about financial stuff on here, but I have shared before my admiration of the Dave Ramsey way of life. Eddie and I took his financial peace university class last year and it changed our lives. If you have any debt, and we sure had a lot, then I recommend checking out his tips for paying it off! I think having financial stability is a necessity for good mental health. I'm sure that's not a surprise for anyone. I've been thinking lately, about a lot of things but also how lucky we are to have all of our basic needs met during this hard time. We are incredibly fortunate. I don't want anyone to ever think that I take it for granted. However, we also worked really hard and made a ton of changes to get to this point of stability. Maybe we could all take a moment to reflect on the necessities and other needs we have met? Why don't we look to what psychology teaches us about what our goals should be to live a functioning and productive life. Anyone remember Maslow from psych 101? Let's use this theory to think of what we are grateful for.
Physiological needs
Do you have air to breath? Water to drink and food to eat? Do you get sleep each night, or most nights? These are basic physiological needs that we require to thrive as a human being. Included with these are clothes to cover your body from the elements and a partner to reproduce with when you don't have clothes on, if that's why you desire.
Safety needs
Do have a sense of security and safety within your shelter or home? Not everyone does, and for those people I am most concerned during these times. Especially children. Feeling secure within our 4 walls is deeply important. Do you have a space, any shape or size, to keep your belongings safe? Are you healthy? If you aren't healthy, do you have access to a doctor or medical professional in any capacity? I have a feeling many of my readers have most of these things, if not all. However, employment is a safety need, and a many of us no longer have that. So hopefully having the other needs met makes up for it!
Love and belonging
I can without a doubt guarantee that you and I are rocking this one. Those of us who meet up here everyday, or whenever, are making a choice to be included in this community. It doesn't matter what your relationship is to me personally or what your relationship is with mental illness, you still belong here in this group. Belonging to a family unit, no mater how many people that includes, helps you to experience love, friendship and connection.
Esteem
We all need to have some respect for ourselves. I have had trouble with this one for most of my life. but as of now, I think I'm doing better than ever. By making all the changes I have, I showed that I have love and respect for myself and it gets better and brighter with every new way I learn to better myself. What are your strengths? Do you have any freedoms you are grateful for? I know this is a hot subject right now, our freedom, due to the restrictions during the pandemic but I hope you can make the most of it and be grateful for the simplicity in being able to step outside and breath of fresh air.
Self-actualization
This is another one that you, my dear reader, and I, can say we are accomplishing! By coming here to read a blog about bettering our mental health through creativity, you are showing you are trying to better yourself. It may not seem like it, but by sharing this time with me you are seeking to connect and add enrichment to your life. Even treating yourself to binge watching netflix means you have a way to treat yo'self. You are thriving my friend! Keep on marching towards your goals with every day and you'll see that you can get by in life a whole lot easier.
Thanks for taking time with me to be grateful for what we have. It's been an honor to meet here with you. See you back here tomorrow!
