Today is Monday, April 6, day 6 of my blog'antine where I blog everyday until the month of May while I quarantine during the Covid-19 epidemic.
Greetings from the Disneyland hold line! I received an email yesterday stating that my Disneyland vacation package is overdue for it's final payment. Interesting because last I knew, Disney has closed all parks indefinitely. I'm sure it's just an automated email but I don't want to risk losing our deposit. Disney is usually awesome at accommodating changes in itinerary, especially when it's because of something that was on them. So, I'm not worried. However, the reception is extremely choppy and the hold music is a 10 minute loop of advertisements for Disney music albums. I normally love Disney music, but this static sounding advertisements are disconcerting. The hold time is currently over 60 minutes- how much over 60 minutes? No clue. but I'm using this time to write my daily quarantine blog! If you want to be in the atmosphere of the day, check out Sorcerer Radio! I've mentioned them before in a blog and they sent me a swag bag last summer, which was so fun to get and really nice of them. It's run by a family and listened to all over the country and offers music from Walt Disney World and has many stations, including atmospheres where you can listen to the music played in different parts of the parks and attractions. Space Mountain loop is one of my favorites. I recommend playing this while pretending your house is a space station, like I mentioned the other day.
I can't currently find the article, but I've read before about how Disney vacations, and just the overall state of mind surrounding Disney, can be good for those who suffer from depression. I believe that with my whole heart. There are lots of ideas popping up on the internet lately to help those who want to be comforted by the Disney experience during this hard time. I think this is because not only are people having to cancel their trips and are disappointed but also reminiscing over Disney memories can help us escape today's horrors for just a little bit. I'm here for it. I'll share with you some of my favorites!
- As I've already mentioned, listening to Sorcerer Radio (they have a website, roku app and apps for android and Iphones). Although, just like the Disney Vacation hotline, they are experience a higher volume of users. There are tons of Disney theme music options on youtube as well.
- Adding Disney themes to your home decor can help add some cheer! I already feel like a Disney Princess most days because our home is like a cozy tree-house as our windows give a nice view of the tall white pine trees and there's a constant chatter of songbirds and squirrels outside.
- Making copy-cat meals to recreate your favorite Disney treats. I plan to use a Galaxy's Edge recipe book to try some Star Wars' themed drinks and snacks on this May the Fourth. Anything to help us feel like we're still making the most of the day we were supposed to be arriving in Anaheim, California.
- This next idea is my favorite! Who else does their favorite Disney attractions twice or three times so that you can use one time through to just enjoy the experience and the next ride to film the whole experience? I do that! I love having a virtual ride-through experience at my finger tips. I uploaded all of my ride-through videos last spring and added the ride music over the footage using software. Others are realizing how fun it is to share our collective virtual Disney experiences via video! This youtube channel offers an organized and complete Disney World virtual experience. but there are hundreds of other videos out there! In fact, I'm working on adding my own videos to my youtube channel to join in the fun. I'm currently uploading and will share the link soon!
- I also love how creative candle makers get when trying to infuse some Disney magic into their scents. My favorites come from 3cheekychickswaxco but you can also find other makers on etsy. One of my favorite scents is called "Sweet on Gaston" and smells like cinnamon rolls and french pastries, like those offered at Gaston's Tavern in Magic Kingdom, Disney World.
I hope these ideas will help you and are family cope during these hard times. If you aren't a Disney fan, then disregard and I'll look forward to seeing you again here tomorrow!
