Hallo-blog Day 18

It's a satisfying and relaxing Sunday in our household. After a successful pumpkin carving gathering, we are enjoying the treats brought to us by others (amazinggg homemade chocolate chip cookies from Liz!) and the cozy memories of the night before. Eddie was really the star of the evening with all of his hard work in our kitchen which started earlier this week when he boiled the ribs in the preparation. The evening's menu:

  • Baby back pork shoulder ribs & BBQ chicken thighs and drumsticks
  • Butternut squash soup (homemade from scratch): butternut squash, apples, beef stock, garlic, onions, nutmeg, cinnamon, cyan pepper, heavy cream and sage
  • Cream cheese sausage dip with ro-tel tomatoes and peppers
  • Monster mash popcorn & pretzel mix
  • Apple & pumpkin pies from Grand Traverse Pie Co
  • Hotdogs & chicken nuggets for the kiddos
  • Apple cider from Gallagher's farm market
  • Beautiful autumn themed cupcakes brought by a dear friend
We had the Hollywood Tower of Terror music playing. Which is my favorite ooky spooky music ever. Put this music on anytime you want a little drama and eeriness for your night. In fact you should play this music now in the background as you read this blog! So that was playing on one side of the house and in the dining room, I had on repeat, my original Disney's Haunted Mansion soundtrack record playing. Which has perfectly timed screams to startle the unprepared guest. On the TV we had Hocus Pocus playing which is by the far the top favorite Halloween movie of all time according to most kids and adults alike. I put a cranky crow in the mudroom to greet every guest. (all of these finishing touches can be viewed on my instagram stories, you'll have to skip through many pictures before getting to last night's videos).

The best part of all was being able to create a fun time for our friends and their kid's with good food and pumpkin carving, and they got to take their masterpieces home, and parent's didn't have to set up or clean up. That brings Eddie and I so much joy. We love using our extra energy from our child free lives to make fun experiences for other's to enjoy.

Before our guests arrived, I put on makeup for the first time in several days. My skin is clearing up more each day that I am not wearing a mask. I'm dreading the breakouts that will arrive once I have to mask up again but this is life now. I used my Lunatick Lab Cosmetics Elvira Pallet and this fun tutorial. I ended up with a sort of Elvira meets clown look that I liked a lot. I picked up a turtleneck to cover up the remaining red skin on my neck from last weeks allergic reaction

I'm very pleased that Eddie and I were able to pull this off despite an exhausting week and that our dear friends were able to visit and we could  spend a few precious hours together. The life that we have created here is unmatched to any other phase of our 13 years together. Despite 2020's dumpster fire, we are rising from the garbage flames.

I'm going to get back to my Sunday Scaries now. Thank you for coming to read about our fun night! I feel like you were there too!
