How writing can improve your self-awareness

Hi mental health warriors! I am writing a blog series based on my podcast where I go back on things I mentioned in my my podcast episodes, and delve into them more deeply and even kind of "fix" some things I thought I said wrongly. This post is based on my discussions I had in my third podcast episode called "Manifesting your dream lover".  In this third episode we delve deeper into the role that writing plays in mental health and fostering connections with others. We also take a moment to reflect on the heartwarming story of how Eddie and Lindsay met, a tale that unfolds from a TV show while he was stationed in Iraq and she was living in Michigan. Throughout the episode, we explore the powerful impact that writing can have on mental well-being. We discuss how individuals can use writing as a creative outlet to express their feelings, thoughts, and experiences, providing a sense of catharsis and emotional release. We also explore the benefits of using gratitude journals and daily writing as a way to promote self-awareness and manifest dreams.

Wait, did you now I had a podcast? LOL Now you do! It's called Love, Lindsay and it's captivating podcast that delves into the realms of our past and embraces the cringy nostalgia that accompanies it. In this thrilling audio experience, we will embark on a journey through time, reflecting on the things we have written in the past and the bittersweet memories they evoke. Get ready to rediscover forgotten moments, cringe-worthy anecdotes, and perhaps even find solace in the shared experiences of our past selves.

I wanna talk about how writing can help your mental health and self-awareness. We all know that expressive writing can result in a reduction of stress and anxiety and depression. And if you didn't know that, now you know! Also, according to Harvard, improving our sleep and performance is another thing that writing can do. And it brings us a greater focus and clarity. And these effects of writing as a tool for healing are definitely well-documented. Also, did you know that researchers suggest that writing may help improve mental clarity by allowing people to better process information and organize their thoughts? Think about it. Have you ever just even talked to a friend, not even a therapist, but like a friend or a family member, and as you were saying something that you were trying to like seek out for advice, all of a sudden the advice was coming to you? Like you were figuring it out yourself and kind of like, you almost just knew what the other person was going to say because you are figuring it out just by putting the idea out there?

I also really truly believe in writing to manifest things. I have a gratitude journal that I use every single day. It's called a five minute journal and it starts out by asking you things that you're grateful for, which... It's kind of cool because it asks you to do that first thing in the morning. And I would find myself being like, okay, I just woke up, what am I grateful for? A comfy bed, breakfast that I'm looking forward to. But then I realized really quickly that I was also thinking of things that happened the day before and things that I'm looking forward to. And then it also prompts you to think about things that you want to improve on or what would help your day What you want to happen that day and that automatically lays out my goals for the day. So I wake up being grateful for what I'm grateful for and Counting my blessings and thanking God that I have legs that work! That I can swing off my bed and I can stand up without pain, without dizziness, and that I have a roof over my head. And then I think about what do I wanna accomplish that day? And I'm writing it down.

I cannot tell you guys how much more I've been writing in my life intuitively and specifically for manifesting since we moved back to Michigan in 2019 from San Francisco. and how that with just like the magic of the land up here and how beautiful it is has really, all of our dreams are coming true. Our business is on fire. Our house is chill. It's beautiful. I've got amazing friends. We're both healthy. Like we're just really vibing and we're winning. And I just want you to think about what writing does for your brain. And I want you to think about things that you've written in the past and how it reflected what you were going through at the time and how writing things out can lead to your increased self-awareness.

We all wanna be aware. We don't wanna be that friend that's dumping on people. We don't wanna be that person that every time you see them, they just have too many things to tell you like. Almost like they are talking AT YOU and not to you. I find myself wondering; Do you not have a therapist to talk to? Do you not have a single other friend? Do you not have a diary? When I come to someone, I wanna have clear and concise things to say that I'm offering because when I'm talking to someone, I'm taking up time in their day. So that's just really important. If you have some ideas that you're trying to work out or if you're wanting just things to come to you in a more clear and concise way, write it down. It's so important.
